BIS Standards are the published specifications that establish a common language, and comprise a technical feature or other crucial criteria and are mainly designed to be used constantly, as a guideline, definition and as a rule. There are different criteria and standards set for different products, materials, services and methods. They make our life easier and simple and increase the effectiveness and reliability of many services and goods we use today. Like in automotive industry, AIAG Standards are used and the AIAG Manuals offer the solutions that improve the prosperity of automotive industry. Some of the other standards include:
Bureau of Indian Standards also known as BIS is the most popular national standard body of India that is governed by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. This government standard bureau is responsible for establishing BIS Standards for any article, product or process and can implement, revise and cancel the standards whenever necessary. There is a product certification scheme under which all the manufacturers use the ISI Mark in the products they produce to prove its effectiveness, reliability and quality. There is also a certification for the foreign manufacturers that plan to export their products to India and it is called BIS product certification license. The product certification scheme for foreign manufacturers was launched in 1999.
Another popular standard for water is the AWWA Standards which is dedicated to safe water. It was established as a forum of water professionals and experts who impart information, advocacy, knowledge for improving the quality of water and supply of water across the nation. The prime aim of the association is to impart education to maintain and operate superior quality water treatment and distribution systems. AWWA publishes over 140 consensus standards for materials and equipments that are used for distribution and treatment of drinking water. The collection also comprises standard techniques for examination of water and wastewater with lab methods for water and wastewater analysis.
These were some of the standards that are widely used today to check the quality and effectiveness of the materials and products we use today.
